Becoming Green

Over the summer holidays I read the thoroughly enjoyable 'A Home Companion' by Wendyl Nissan. It was not what I was expecting. Instead I found myself reading how to live a less chemical life, and dozens of recipes for make my own just about everything!! Feeling inspired, I went online (decided to try hers first before buying all the ingredients!) and bought her laundry liquid detergent. Lovely! Also bought her blueing powder and it does work. Tried it out on the not so white sheets and they came up so much whiter and brighter. Why not make my own. I collected the FOUR ingredients and gave it ago. Might have put a little too much lavender oil but the washing smells lovely and I can smell the lavender as the washing machine is doing its thing. It's a bit of a mixture between a powder and a clay but thats OK, she said it probably would be. Think I'll try the laundry liquid next, just found the borax on Trade Me - I have a feeling it will go further and be more economical, certainly both a far cheaper than buying anything from the supermarket.
